The "bungalow". The name of these places were Los Antiguos Mayo de bungalows (or something similar). Of course we see an affordable price and the word bungalow, so we decide to check it out....it was clean and the literally the last stop before entering Chile so we figured why not.
Cuevo de las Manos, pero Guanaco's. (Like the ones running across the road in the previous post)
Cueva de los Manos
On Wednesday, 4.30.09 we left El Calafate back on Ruta 40 heading north. We went about half-way back up the distance we drove south and then west to cross into Chile. Near a town called Perito Moreno, we took a detour to visit Cueva de las Manos (Cave of the Hands). In a volcanic canyon, on a short hike with a mandatory guide, is an amazing series of 10,000 year old paintings of human hands and animals in red, orange, black, white, and green. Many studies/investigations have taken place, and they don’t really know why this was done. We ended the day in Los Antiguos, only 2 km from the Chilean border. Not much happening in this town…we stayed here (in a “bungalow”) for the night, so we could cross into Chile early the next morning. Early doesn't really mean early here though...the sun doesn't rise until 8 am. Crazy.
