Friday night (5.22.09) we parted ways with Carrie and Jerry. We sent them on their way on the overnight bus back to BsAs and we caught another overnight bus headed to Salta. Salta is another old colonial city in northwest Argentina and was on our route out of the country. We arrived on Saturday afternoon only to find out that it was the 1st annual empanada competition on Sunday! We have been eating empanadas since Panama, so this was kind of a big deal! (Jerry, you really missed out!) An empanada is a pastry filled with just about anything...meat, chicken, potatoes, vegetables, cheese, and also desert empanadas.
