Monterrico, Guatemala

It is grown to make a loofah sponge. For all of us who though they came from the sea....here is the proof they do not.

This is a type of squash grown all along the coast here.
Although it is not grown for cooking.

A view of our hotel.

July 15-July 16

Today we crossed another border. Surprisingly no problems or long lines. We decided we would check out the Guatemalan beach first. It was extremely hot, the waves were big, and the mosquitoes were even bigger. The swimming pool at our hotel was the coolest thing about the town (literally). It was still a neat place to visit. It is not overun by tourism and we were able to practice our Spanish as much as we needed to with the locals.
