The Olive Ridley sea turtle heading back to the sea after she layed her eggs.
We both got up on the boards...this picture just looks much more graceful than the others!

Bird's eye view of San Juan del sur
July 4-July 6
Happy 4th of July! We crossed into Nicaragua from Costa Rica today. The most ridiculous crossing taking a total of 3.5 hours. (at least half spent waiting in what was supposed to be a line). We finally got through the crossing and heading straight to the beach, to celebrate the 4th like many from home probably did as well. We took our first stab at surfing (since 1 time 5 years ago in Costa Rica). This time we took lessons with a group which ended up being a better way to figure things out. We also went on a turtle excursion to La Flor Wildlife Refuge to see one of the thousands of Olive Ridley sea turtles that come to this beach every year around this time to lay their eggs. Right now there are only about 30 turtles a night coming, however during the peak time thousands of turtles come each night to lay their eggs. The entire process is pretty amazing.
