Ruins of Palenque
Aug 8 – Aug 11
On Sunday morning we left Cancun and drove west towards Palenque. We stopped for a short time in Mérida for more guayabera shopping, then made it to Campeche for the night. Campeche is a neat cobblestoned street city with portions of the old city wall from the 18th century still standing. One night in Campeche and the next stop was Palenque. Palenque is another Mayan ruin set at the base of the Sierra Madre mountain range and surrounded by a jungle. Some of the prettiest architecture and surrounding scenery has been here.
